Laura Koo joins Insight Housing as Chief Philanthropy Officer

Insight Housing is thrilled to announce the appointment of Laura Koo in the role of Chief Philanthropy Officer. Koo, who has lived in the Bay Area for the past 29 years, comes to Insight Housing after serving most recently as Chief Advancement Officer at Menlo College and brings decades of nonprofit experience. At Insight Housing, Koo will be overseeing all agency fundraising activities including individual donations, foundation grants, in-kind donations, and volunteers, as well as Philanthropy Department staff.

“We’re delighted to welcome Laura to the team and she’ll be a key part of our regional strategy as Insight Housing continues to grow,” said Insight Housing CEO Calleene Egan. “Now in seven counties in the Bay Area and beyond, Insight Housing’s expansion of services and programming into new communities makes hiring Laura as CPO a key element of our organizational planning to support that growth.”

Before Menlo College, Koo worked at Second Harvest of Silicon Valley where she learned more about the root causes of food insecurity. Through her work, she found that housing was almost always the biggest expense challenging her food bank recipients.

Koo said her many years of living in California have underscored both what a special place it can be to live and raise a family in, and how incredibly challenging it can be to get by financially.

“The line between those with a stable job and secure housing in California, and those without, is razor-thin,” Koo said. “Housing is a fundamental right, not a privilege, and I’m excited to be positioned upstream at Insight Housing to drive impactful change in our communities.”
