Berkeley Food & Housing Project Announces a New Executive Director
The Board and Leadership Team of Berkeley Food & Housing Project is very pleased to announce the appointment of Calleene Egan as Executive Director, effective September 3rd. Egan joined the agency in January 2019 as Director of Programs and has already played a pivotal role in bringing BFHP’s programs and services into alignment with the changing needs of a burgeoning – and intraregional – homeless population. She succeeds Terrie Light, BFHP’s former Executive Director, who retired on June 15th after 21 years with the agency.
“The Board of BFHP is excited for its future under Calleene’s leadership” said Board Chair, Kajsa Minor. “We have been incredibly impressed by her passion and dedication to serving the homeless. Her energy and tenacity will no doubt make a significant impact, which our community needs now more than ever. Calleene will also be instrumental in achieving BFHP’s goal of building the Hope Center, which will break ground next year. BFHP is fortunate to have Calleene at its helm. We would also like to thank Marc-Andrew Aguilera, BFHP’s Director of Finance & Administration, who acted as Interim Executive Director between June 15th and September 1st, as we extended our external and internal search process to find the ideal candidate.”
The Hope Center is part of a larger collaboration between BFHP and BRIDGE Housing that will bring a wide array of affordable housing to downtown Berkeley.
Prior to joining BFHP, Calleene was Regional Director for Social Enterprise with Caminar Inc. She holds a BA from California State University, Chico, and a MA in Social Entrepreneurship from Pepperdine University. Calleene brings many years of experience in developing strategic partnerships as well as managing complex contracts for services with local, regional, and national providers.

Founded in Berkeley in 1970, BFHP has since expanded to become a regional provider of homeless services across six counties. Over the past four years, the agency’s annual operating budget has more than doubled from $4.6 million in FY 15-16 to $12.2 million in FY 19-20.
BFHP remains headquartered in Berkeley, while its office in Sacramento serves as the focal point for Roads Home, a program that provides services for homeless veterans and their families, with satellite offices in Richmond, Vallejo, Stockton, and Sutter Creek.
